Your Field Guide to Gemthropology

Welcome to the Inquiry Desk. Think of this as your field guide to our materials, logistics, and the care of your artifacts. We’re here to ensure your experience is as intentional as our designs.

I. The Archives: Materials & Origin

What are your pieces made of?
We prioritize longevity and skin health. Most designs utilize high-quality stainless steel and nickel-free components. We also work with silver, copper, and authentic natural stones—both in their raw, jagged states and polished finishes.

Is it durable?
Absolutely. Many of our designs feature soldered metal elements for structural integrity. While our polymer clay is famously lightweight for comfort, its construction is "architect-grade"—built to be worn and lived in.

Handmade vs. Handcrafted
There is a story in how things are made:

Fully Handmade: These are the pieces sculpted from the ground up in our Raleigh studio.

Handcrafted: These are thoughtfully curated artifacts—like upcycled vintage buttons or rescued gems given a second life through specialized assembly. Both receive the same meticulous obsession with detail.

II. Field Notes: Shipping & Logistics

When will my artifact ship?

To keep our workflow sustainable, we ship orders every Tuesday and Thursday (excluding holidays).

Do you offer local pickup?
Yes! We love our Raleigh, NC community. Free pickup is available at the Raleigh Market or Raleigh Festival with advance notice. Just contact us to coordinate.

III. The Conservator’s Guide: Care & Policies

How do I care for my jewelry?
Even high-quality metals need a little grace. To preserve your piece’s finish, keep it away from harsh chemicals, perfumes, and excessive sweat. Treat it like the artifact it is.

What is your return policy?
Due to the unique, one-of-a-kind nature of our work, returns must be initiated within 3 days of receipt. The customer is responsible for return shipping costs.

IV. Special Assignments: Group Projects

Do you offer wholesale?
We don’t do traditional wholesale, but we love Group Projects!

If you are looking for custom artifacts for a wedding, school, fraternity, or community organization, we’d love to help. Reach out to us to start a conversation about your vision.
